Sex on Fire - Kings of Leon

This is one of those songs that right from the first listen I loved. The accompaniment on the instruments are cool, the lyrics are risque, without being overtly perverse, and it makes me dance and smile.

I first heard of the Kings of Leon, a few years ago, they opened for another favorite artist, that my sister went to see, she raved about the entire show, and I heard a bit of their stuff hear and there. When 'Sex on Fire' was released in 2008, and I had heard it the first time... I wasn't quite sure I was understanding what I was hearing.

I looked up the lyrics, and sure enough, I understood it just right. If you are reading the lyrics for the first time, yes it is about foreplay.

Lay where you're laying, don't make a sound

I know they're watching, they're watching

All the commotion, the kiddie like play

Has people talking, talking

You, your sex is on fire

The dark of the alley, the breaking of day

The head while I'm driving,

I'm driving

Soft lips are open, knuckles are pale

Feels like you're dying, you're dying

You, your sex is on fire

Consumed with what's to transpire

Hot as a fever, rattling bones

I could just taste it, taste it

If it's not forever, if it's just tonight

Oh, it's still the greatest, the greatest, the greatest

You, your sex is on fire

And you, your sex is on fire

Consumed with what's to transpire

And you, your sex is on fire

Consumed with what's to transpire

Collide - Howie Day

I absolutely love this song. From the moment I heard it the first time, I knew I'd have it on heavy rotation. It speaks to the romantic in me.
We all have insecurities, let's face it, and to have it clear, in this song, is comforting. Just beginning a new 'relationship' (for lack of a better word) I often find myself thinking on how it would be to be in perfect bliss, but still with the reality that we all make mistakes, we all have moments of insecurity, that some how, at the end of the day, two people with deep love and respect for one another, can come together and make it work.

The dawn is breaking

A light shining through

You're barely waking

And I'm tangled up in you

Yeah
I'm open, you're closed

Where I follow, you'll go

I worry I won't see your face light up again

Even the best fall down sometimes

Even the wrong words seem to rhyme

Out of the doubt that fills my mind

I somehow find you and I collide

I'm quiet you know

You make a first impression

I've found I'm scared to know I'm always on your mind

Even the best fall down sometimes

Even the stars refuse to shine

Out of the back you fall in time

I somehow find you and I collide

Don't stop here

I lost my place

I'm close behind

Even the best fall down sometimes

Even the wrong words seem to rhyme

Out of the doubt that fills your mind

You finally find, you and I collide

White Horse - Tayor Swift

For the record, I don't care for Taylor Swift as a singer or performer, though I do like the lyrics of the songs she writes. I first heard Taylor on a local radio station with her debut song "Teardrops on my Guitar", you know... the Drew Song, ironically, I was on my way to meet a date, whose name happens to be Drew.
That song had a sort of foreboding... since it is about unrequited, young, love. Subsequently, things didn't work out between Drew and I. But since then, Taylor's lyrics, have been simple and profound in my mind.

White Horse

Say you're sorry

That face of an angel

Comes out just when you need it to

As I paced back and forth all this time

Cause I honestly believed in you

Holding on

The days drag on

Stupid girl,

I should have known,

I should have known

I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairy tale

I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet,

Lead her up the stairwell

This ain't Hollywood, this is a small town,

I was a dreamer before you went and let me down

Now it's too late for you

And your white horse, to come around

Baby I was naive,

Got lost in your eyes

And never really had a chance

My mistake, I didn't know to be in love

You had to fight to have the upper hand

I had so many dreams

About you and me

Happy endings

Now I know

I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairy tale

I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet,

Lead her up the stairwell

This ain't Hollywood, this is a small town,

I was a dreamer before you went and let me down

Now it's too late for you

And your white horse, to come around

And there you are on your knees,

Begging for forgiveness, begging for me

Just like I always wanted but I'm so sorry

Cause I'm not your princess, this ain't a fairytale

I'm gonna find someone someday who might actually treat me well

This is a big world, that was a small town

There in my rear view mirror disappearing now

And its too late for you and your white horse

Now its too late for you and your white horse, to catch me now

Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa

Try and catch me now

Oh, it's too late

To catch me now
